Johannesburg – ActionSA’s Ekurhuleni mayoral candidate, Councillor Xolani Khumalo, will voluntarily hand himself over to SAPS on Monday amid leaked plans to arrest him for allegedly assaulting a self-confessed drug dealer in 2025.
The party slams it as harassment by “rogue police” protecting criminals, stemming from a Katlehong raid where police seized unlicensed ammo from the suspect but released him — prompting his counter-assault claim.
ActionSA alleges the dealer colludes with SAPS in drug rackets targeting schoolchildren, citing similar uncharged busts in Etwatwa.
Spokesperson Matthew George calls it retaliation for Khumalo’s anti-crime efforts; the party plans to rally in solidarity.
“Khumalo agreed to voluntarily hand himself over on Monday, subjecting himself to what is yet another round of harassment in retaliation by criminals for his war on criminality in Ekurhuleni.
“This experience is not new to Khumalo, and South Africans are well aware that corrupt elements within the SAPS too often allow criminals to walk free while targeting those who actively fight crime. This case is no different,” George said.
[STATEMENT] I knew that when I declared war on drug dealers and lawlessness in Ekurhuleni, they would target me, but this is a fight we are ready for!
