Durban – Four men have been arrested in Chatsworth, south of Durban, in connection with cases of murder and attempted murder allegedly committed in the Chatsworth policing area.
According to police, the arrests follow the fatal shooting of a 20-year-old man at the 1104 informal settlement.
The incident occurred on Monday, 12 January, when the victim was shot multiple times while walking on the road and was declared dead at the scene.
Police spokesperson Colonel Robert Netshiunda said the arrests were the result of an intelligence-driven operation.
“Information about the whereabouts of the suspects was gathered and operationalised, leading to the arrest of four suspects linked to cases of murder and attempted murder in Chatsworth,” he said.

During the operation, police also seized a firearm believed to have been used in the killing. “A firearm was recovered and will form part of the investigation,” Netshiunda added.
Preliminary investigations further revealed that one of the suspects was already on the police wanted list for a double murder allegedly committed in July 2025 at Crossmoor in Chatsworth. “It was established that one of the arrested suspects is wanted for a double murder case that occurred last year,” police said.
In a related development during the same operation, officers also arrested another suspect who was wanted for attempted murder. The suspect is alleged to have stabbed a 46-year-old man multiple times during a robbery at Shallcross in March 2025. “The suspect was positively linked to an attempted murder case reported earlier this year,” Netshiunda said.
The four suspects, aged between 29 and 35, are expected to appear in the Chatsworth Magistrate’s Court on Thursday, 15 January, where they will face charges related to the murder and attempted murder cases.
