According to the South African Police Service (SAPS), the arrest followed a routine patrol by members of the South African National Defence Force (SANDF) in the Musina policing area.

Police said the suspects reacted suspiciously upon noticing security officials. “Upon noticing the officials, the suspects dropped the bags and fled in different directions,” SAPS added.
One of the suspects was quickly apprehended, while the second managed to evade arrest and remains at large.
A search of the abandoned bags led to the discovery of a significant quantity of explosives. “A search of the abandoned bags led to the discovery of explosives, including 25 Carmex safety fuses and 125 blasting cartridges,” SAPS said.
The arrested suspect is expected to appear in court soon on charges related to the possession of illegal explosives, while police investigations continue to trace the second suspect.
