Hazelmere, KwaZulu-Natal – A 14-year-old boy was found cooking breakfast inside a Hazelmere home on Saturday after allegedly breaking into the property earlier in the day.
According to Reaction Unit South Africa (RUSA), the teenager is accused of gaining entry to a house on Ezakheni Road by removing a gate and forcing open a door before stealing clothing and food items.
The homeowner said he was stunned by what he found when he returned to the property.
“When I arrived home, I found the boy inside my house frying eggs,” he told responders.
RUSA confirmed that its officers were called to the scene and found the house in disarray. “Reaction Officers arrived and discovered the home had been ransacked,” the organisation said in a statement.
Residents in the area alleged that the teenager was not a first-time offender. “Community members informed our officers that the suspect is known in the area for previous housebreaking incidents,” RUSA said.
The teenager was subsequently handed over to the South African Police Service for further investigation. Police have not yet confirmed whether formal charges have been laid.
