Cape Town – Hugo Broos praised substitute Tshepang Moremi for injecting pace and threat into Bafana Bafana’s attack during their 2-1 win over Angola in their opening Group B match at the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations.
Moremi made an immediate impact after coming on with the scores level, having a goal ruled out by VAR before his assist set up Lyle Foster’s match-winning strike.

“Tshepang had a wonderful entry into the team.
“Suddenly there was speed in the team and we were dangerous. He scored a goal with an offside, I don’t know what happened but yes he was a threat,” Broos said during an interview with SABC Sport.
He, however, criticised Bafana’s first-half performance, saying the team “fell asleep” after taking the lead through Oswin Appollis and allowed Angola to equalise and dominate for long spells.

He was pleased with the improved intensity and movement after half-time, which led to greater pressure and chances.
Looking ahead to their next match against Egypt on Boxing Day, Broos said Bafana are in a strong position but expect a tougher test, adding that avoiding defeat would be a positive result.
