Cape Town – The ANC in the Western Cape has called for an investigation after videos emerged allegedly showing Bitou municipality deputy mayor Nokuzola “Noksi” Kolwapi firing a gun into the air during a public mgidi celebration in Kwanokuthula, Plettenberg Bay, on 21 December.
Kolwapi, an Ikhwezi Political Movement councillor, was reportedly filmed dancing and singing while discharging the firearm.
According to The Citizen, the ANC’s Victor Molosi region said it views the incident seriously and urged law enforcement to independently verify the video’s authenticity and investigate the circumstances, stressing that public representatives must uphold the law.

“The ANC views any conduct involving the discharge of a firearm in a public or private setting with the utmost seriousness, particularly when it involves public representatives who are expected to uphold the law and act responsibly at all time,” the report quoted the party as saying.
The party said appropriate action should follow if the allegations are confirmed.
“Those are criminal acts, she behaves like a hooligan, a charlatan in public. Discharging a firearm in public is a criminal offence. We have seen a politician (EFF leader Julius Malema) being convicted for doing the very same things,” ANC Western Cape provincial spokesperson Sifiso Mtsweni told broadcaster Newzroom Afrika on Monday.

“We also want to put it on record that she is not an ANC member, she is not an ANC councillor, she is not an ANC deputy mayor. The ANC has called on law enforcement agencies to investigate this. A case has been opened at the Kwa-Nokuthula police station. We want her arrested, we want her removed from council.”
Police have confirmed an investigation into a case of pointing and firing a firearm, with no arrests made so far.
The case was opened at the Kwanokuthula police station.
The article also draws parallels with EFF leader Julius Malema’s firearm case, in which he was recently found guilty of firing a weapon in public and now faces possible imprisonment, pending sentencing and an appeal.
