Bloemfontein – Three people were killed and at least 71 others injured when a bus crashed on the N1 just outside Bloemfontein in the early hours of Monday morning.
According to Arrive Alive, emergency services were alerted to the scene at around 01:20.
“VR MED responded to a bus accident on the N1 just outside Bloemfontein,” the road safety organisation said.
Medical personnel assessed multiple passengers at the scene before transporting the injured to hospitals in and around Bloemfontein.

“Following assessment by medical personnel on scene, 71 individuals were transported to hospitals in the area,” Arrive Alive said.
Three fatalities were confirmed at the scene.
“The accident unfortunately claimed three lives,” the organisation added. “We offer our condolences to the families affected.”
A multi-agency emergency response was activated, with assistance from VR MED, Life EMS, provincial EMS, ER24, Netcare, the South African Police Service (SAPS), traffic authorities, Fire OPS SA, and Fire and Rescue services.
The cause of the crash has not yet been confirmed, and authorities are expected to investigate the circumstances surrounding the incident.
