Amanzimtoti – Three people remain unaccounted for after a vehicle carrying five occupants was swept downstream by flooding on Long Acres Drive in Amanzimtoti, south of Durban, on Sunday.
ALS Paramedics responded to the scene early on Monday morning, confirming the vehicle “allegedly left the roadway” and was carried away by floodwaters, according to an Arrive Alive report issued on 22 December 2025.
Two occupants managed to escape the incident unharmed, but the whereabouts of the other three are unknown.
Rescue teams convened for a full briefing this morning ahead of a coordinated search and rescue operation.

“Rescue teams are meeting this morning for a full briefing before beginning a coordinated search and rescue operation,” the report stated.
“Further updates will follow as information becomes available.”
The incident highlights ongoing risks from heavy rains and flooding in KwaZulu-Natal, with no further details released on the victims’ identities or the vehicle’s condition.
