Cape Town – South African rapper Emtee has publicly apologised after a video showing him seemingly dozing off during a live performance in Pretoria on December 16 went viral and sparked widespread fan disappointment.
According to a statement released by eMtee Records, the demanding pace of the festive season and an ambitious schedule that saw the rapper performing at five venues in one day were factors in what unfolded on stage.
“Following an exceptionally busy summer season with back-to-back shows, eMtee had an ambitious schedule on December 16, performing at five venues — a testament to his dedication to connecting with fans,” the statement read, adding that the “demanding pace took its toll, and fatigue impacted his ability to deliver the high-energy show our fans expected in Pretoria.”
In the formal apology, Emtee’s team acknowledged the disappointment felt by concertgoers.
“We acknowledge the disappointment this caused and appreciate the understanding of our loyal supporters. eMtee is deeply sorry for falling short of expectations and is committed to making it right,” the statement said, with the label confirming plans are underway to organise a follow-up show in Pretoria so fans can experience the performance they feel they missed.

Social media users questioned the rapper’s professionalism and consistency, with comments like “Every year, Emtee is apologising for something,” and “That was not fatigue though, bro needs discipline,” circulating widely.
Emtee himself has previously called for empathy around the intense pressures musicians face during peak performance months, saying, “I know there’s always complaints about artists, gigs etc especially in December. We human gang,” highlighting the human side of the industry’s grind.
