Cape Town – A 36-year-old woman was injured in a hit-and-run accident on Jabu Ngcobo Road near Trenance Park in KwaZulu-Natal on Tuesday, prompting an investigation into the driver who fled the scene.
Members of Reaction Unit South Africa (RUSA), who were returning from attending an unrelated fatal accident in the area, were flagged down by members of the public to assist the injured woman.
The incident occurred about 400 metres from the earlier crash scene.
According to RUSA, the woman had just alighted from a taxi after returning from work when she was struck by a white VW Polo.
“The vehicle failed to stop and fled the scene without rendering any assistance,” RUSA said in a statement.
The victim sustained an open head wound as a result of the collision. She was later transported privately by her family to a hospital for medical treatment.
Authorities are yet to confirm whether a case of hit-and-run has been formally opened, and no arrests had been reported at the time of publication.
