Cape Town – The family of Warren Stock, aka “DJ Warras,” are heartbroken and struggling to come to terms with his sudden death.
The 40-year-old, who previously worked as a presenter on 5FM and Cliff Central, was reportedly confronted by three armed men who shot at him in the Johannesburg CBD as he was leaving Zambesi House near Carlton Centre on Tuesday.
Police confirmed nothing was stolen and that Stock was carrying his firearm at the time.
Gauteng police commissioner Fred Kekana says officers are hot on the heels of Warrick ‘DJ Warras’ Stock killers. Kekana says preliminary investigations suggest that DJ Warras was murdered for a hijacked building that his security company was guarding.

While the motive remains unclear, police are investigating all possibilities, including links to hijacked buildings.
According to The Citizen, acting family spokesperson Melanie Ramjee described him as a devoted son, loving father, and cherished brother and uncle, who was the heart of the family.
“The senseless nature of his passing has left his family devastated, broken, and struggling to imagine a world without him. A devoted son, a loving and proud father, a cherished brother and uncle, Warrick was the heart and anchor of his family,” the report quoted her as saying.
“Affectionately known as DJ Warras, also known as ‘The Shady Lurker’, he brought light, laughter, and strength into every space he occupied. His influence and kindness extended far beyond his home, and he was deeply loved by his friends, colleagues, and the wider South African entertainment community.”
The family has requested privacy, compassion, and understanding during this painful time, and ask that the police be given space to investigate.
The family expressed gratitude for the messages of support and condolences they have received, and funeral arrangements will be shared in due course.
