Cape Town – Els joins PSG with over 35 years’ experience spanning economic strategy, financial markets and public policy. Most recently, he served as Group Chief Economist at Old Mutual, following a distinguished career focused on macroeconomic analysis and forecasting.
Johann holds a Master of Commerce (MCom) in Economics and is widely respected for his balanced perspective on South Africa’s economic landscape and the global forces shaping markets.
Francois Gouws, CEO of PSG Financial Services, says Els’ appointment will play a central role in strengthening PSG’s economic research capability and supporting advisers with valuable perspectives that inform client advice and investment positioning. “Johann’s track record speaks for itself. He has spent decades interpreting economic trends and translating them into clear, actionable perspectives.”
In his new role, Els will lead PSG’s macroeconomic research function and work closely with the group’s investment and advisory teams. He will also collaborate with PSG’s business units on strategic initiatives such as client events and roadshows.
Commenting on his appointment, Els says he is looking forward to contributing to PSG’s impressive growth story. “I’m excited and honoured to join the dynamic teams at PSG at such a pivotal time. PSG’s strong culture and commitment to client-focused advice resonate deeply with me, and this role allows me to continue the work I love – making sense of the economic environment and supporting advisers and clients with meaningful, forward-looking insights. I look forward to contributing to PSG’s continued growth and success.”
Els’ appointment comes as PSG has again demonstrated resilient performance despite difficult market conditions, with the group continuing to build momentum across its advice and investment businesses. “We are thrilled to welcome Johann to the team. His expertise will ensure that our advisory team and our clients benefit from relevant macroeconomic insights, aligned with PSG’s investment philosophy,” Gouws concluded.
