Cape Town – Springboks captain Siya Kolisi has faced public criticism after removing his shorts in front of young fans following South Africa’s 24–13 victory over Ireland at the weekend.
A video circulating on social media shows Kolisi interacting with supporters when a young boy asked him for a personal item.
Kolisi then offered his worn match shorts and proceeded to take them off, remaining in his underwear beneath a long black trench coat.
A young fan didn’t have a phone for a selfie, so Siya Kolisi gave him his shorts.

The moment sparked backlash on X, with many users calling the gesture inappropriate, especially in front of young girls who were part of the group.
Comments included accusations of “public indecency” and suggestions that Kolisi should have offered a shirt or boots instead.
This is not the first time the 34-year-old has drawn attention for similar antics.
Kolisi previously exposed branded underwear at Murrayfield Stadium in Scotland, posted a video signing a supporter’s swimsuit, and made headlines in Edinburgh in 2021 for signing — and slapping — a fan’s buttock, aording to The South African.
Kolisi, who has recently been linked to Dutch influencer Rachel James after separating from his former partner Rachel Kolisi, has not responded publicly to the latest criticism.
