Arrows reacted swiftly and substitute Keenan Phillips set up a tense finish by scoring with a close-range shot across Ivorian goalkeeper Eliezer Tape.
Promoted Durban City forced a 0-0 draw at Richards Bay and trail Galaxy on goal difference.
After an impressive start to the season, a winless run by third-place Sekhukhune United stretched to five matches when they drew 1-1 away to Marumo Gallants in Bloemfontein on Saturday.
Ngoanamello Rammala put United ahead in the first minute of the second half and Ndabayithethwa Ndlondlo levelled on 65 minutes for Marumo, whose five draws is the joint-most this season in the league.
An Athini Maqokola brace earned fifth-place AmaZulu a 2-0 home win in Durban over Siwelele, who surrendered a four-match unbeaten league run.
