Cape Town – Orlando Pirates head coach José Riveiro has thrown his full support behind teenage sensation Relebohile Mofokeng, insisting the 19-year-old will overcome his recent dip in form despite growing public scrutiny.
Speaking after Pirates’ recent fixtures, Riveiro told the press that fluctuations in performance are normal for a young player who has suddenly become one of the club’s most watched talents.
“He’s a young player. Everything is new for him,” Riveiro said, “You cannot perform at your best every single week. He will bounce back because he has the right mentality.”
Pirates’ technical team remains confident that Mofokeng’s workload, pressure, and increased expectations are part of the natural learning curve. Riveiro expressed that the club is guiding him through the demands that come with being a first-team regular, explaining: “We have to protect him, help him, and give him the right environment to grow.”
Earlier this season, Riveiro also addressed similar concerns, emphasising that Mofokeng should not be burdened with the weight of carrying the team. “He’s still a kid, He’s doing amazingly well, but people must understand it’s a process. We need to give him space to make mistakes and learn.”

Both sources highlight that, despite the rising pressure from supporters and analysts, Pirates remain confident that Mofokeng’s talent will prevail. Riveiro reiterated that form struggles are typical for any young player transitioning into a demanding professional environment.
“He knows what he can do, and we know what he can do,” Riveiro said, “We trust him.”
As Pirates continue their campaign, the coaching staff is reportedly focused on helping Mofokeng rediscover the flair and composure that made him one of the most talked-about prospects in South African football. According to analysts cited across local football platforms, the club’s approach reflects a long-term commitment to developing the starlet rather than pushing him beyond his limits.
Riveiro’s stance signals confidence not only in Mofokeng’s talent but also in his maturity. With the support of the technical team and the belief of the head coach, the midfielder is expected to “bounce back,” as stated by Riveiro, and reclaim his early-season influence in the Buccaneers’ attack.
