Cape Town – US President Donald Trump launched a tirade against South Africa, accusing the country of “behaving badly” and “exterminating people” when asked about Palestinians being relocated from Gaza to South Africa.
Instead of addressing the question, Trump used the moment to justify his refusal to attend the upcoming G20 summit in South Africa, claiming the country’s “extermination policies” were unacceptable.
“I’m not going to South Africa for the G20 because I think their policies on the extermination of people are unacceptable. So I’m not going. South Africa has behaved extremely badly,” Trump told reporters.
He has declared that no US representatives would attend the summit in South Africa, alleging that the country has carried out genocide against Afrikaners — a group he began offering refugee status to in May this year.
President Cyril Ramaphosa dismissed Trump’s boycott, insisting the G20 would proceed successfully without the US and warning that the US was sidelining itself globally.
South African officials, including Dirco spokesperson Chrispin Phiri, have condemned Trump’s claims as factually inaccurate and unsupported, stressing that the idea of “white genocide” has no credible evidence.
The Trump administration has also clashed with South Africa over its case against Israel at the International Court of Justice.
