Inanda, KwaZulu-Natal — Police in KwaZulu-Natal are investigating four counts of murder after four people were found burnt to death inside two vehicles in the Umatata area of Inanda on Saturday, 15 November 2025.
According to the South African Police Service (SAPS), officers responded to reports of two vehicles ablaze.
Upon arrival, they discovered one body inside a Nissan NP200, and three others inside a Toyota Rumion. All the bodies were burnt beyond recognition. Police also found three cattle carcasses next to the Nissan NP200.
“The motive for these killings is unknown at this stage,” said a SAPS spokesperson.
“However, we are investigating the possibility that this incident is linked to stock theft.”
Authorities confirmed that the process of identifying the victims is ongoing.
“We are currently working to establish the identities of the deceased and urge anyone with information to come forward,” the spokesperson added.
A manhunt for the suspects is underway, with police appealing to the public for any leads.
