Durban – The Afrika Mayibuye Movement has stirred controversy with a fundraising gala where a seat at the table with leader Floyd Shivambu costs R2 million.
Similar to the EFF’s 2023 strategy of charging R1.2 million to meet Julius Malema, the Mayibuye event offers VIP packages ranging from R10 000 to R2 million, including meals, entertainment, and access to top party officials.
Scheduled for 28 November at Mhulu Luxury Boutique Hotel in Midrand, Gauteng, the dinner aims to attract business leaders, philanthropists, and activists to support initiatives like youth and women leadership development, governance strengthening, and national movement building.

Proceeds will fund the party’s First National Convention in December 2025 at the University of Johannesburg’s Soweto Campus, intended to unify delegates, refine party policies, and chart a roadmap for South Africa’s democratic future.
“This Convention marks a decisive moment in South Africa’s democratic journey and our collective struggle for total freedom and emancipation now!,” the party said in a statement.
“It will assemble delegates from all provinces; leaders of our women, youth and students movements; worker representatives through MAWUSA; traditional and royal leaders; religious bodies; community organisers; academics; and international allies.
“Together, these voices will refine our foundational documents, affirm our programme of action, and chart a principled path to collective power for the future of our nation.”
