Pretoria – The ANC has confirmed that Police Minister Senzo Mchunu, currently on special leave following the establishment of the Madlanga Commission of Inquiry, offered to step aside from his party duties.
However, the ANC’s National Executive Committee decided he should remain active in organisational roles, as he has not been charged in any court.
“The National Congress confirms that Comrade Senzo Mchunu had indicated his willingness to step aside from organisational work following the announcement of the commission of Inquiry by President Cyril Ramaphosa,” the ANC said in a statement.
It added: “The ANC acknowledged his continued cooperation with the Madlanga commission and the AN integrity commission, in line with the movement’s values of accountability, discipline, and respect for due process.

“The National Executive Committee (NEC) discussed the circumstances surrounding Comrade Mchnu’s matter and, consistent with the provisions of the ANC Constitution and established policy on such matters, agreed that he would continue to perform organisational tasks while on special leave from his Cabinet responsibilities.”
Mchunu has already appeared before the party’s Integrity Commission and will return after testifying at the inquiry.
