Johannesburg – The Head of Investigation and Operations at the Investigating Directorate Against Corruption (IDAC) was kidnapped, assaulted, and later abandoned in the early hours of Saturday morning near Rabie Ridge, Gauteng.
According to anti-crime activist Yusuf Abramjee, the senior official was attacked while driving home on Friday night. His assailants allegedly took his cellphone and laptop before dumping him on the roadside.
“He was kidnapped last night while driving home. His assailants assaulted him and abandoned him near Rabie Ridge in the early hours of the morning,” Abramjee said in a statement on X (formerly Twitter).
The victim managed to get help and was taken to a nearby police station, where he reported the incident. He is currently receiving medical treatment after what authorities described as a “traumatic experience.”

While the motive behind the kidnapping remains unclear, the National Prosecuting Authority (NPA) said it would not speculate on whether the attack was linked to the official’s work.
“The NPA is wary of making any speculation on the motive behind such horrific action and whether it is related to his work. The incident and its timing reflect the possible dangers in this space,” the authority said.
The matter has been handed over to the police for further investigation.
Law enforcement agencies are yet to make any arrests, and details surrounding the kidnapping are still emerging.
