Cape Town – A fourth suspect, identified as Johannes Shokane, has made a court appearance in Polokwane magistrate’s court, Limpopo, after being linked to the alleged insurance-related killings has appeared.
According to SABC News, he is the brother of the two accomplices — former police sergeant Rachel Kutumela and Anna Shokane.
His arrest was made on Wednesday
Limpopo National Prosecuting Authority (NPA) spokesperson Mashudu Malabi has postponed the case to 18 November 2025, noting that the date is provisional due to uncertainty about the court’s availability.
The hearing will focus on the accused’s bail application, as the court’s schedule is currently heavily congested.

According to the South African, the accused faces nine counts of murder, money laundering, receiving proceeds of unlawful activities, and defeating the ends of justice.
The crimes were committed between 2013 and 2022.
Shokane is alleged to have profited from life and funeral insurance policies that Rachel and Annah fraudulently claimed using the identities of several victims.
“The accused allegedly received payouts totaling about R10 million following the victims’ deaths.
“The payouts came from Absa, Standard Bank, Capitec, Hollard, Assupol, Old Mutual, OneLife, and Clientele.
“Malabi said the state alleges that the proceeds were shared among the accused, including Johannes, said the South African.
