Johannesburg — The case of Tiffany Meek, the 31-year-old mother accused of killing her 11-year-old son, Jayden-Lee Meek, has been postponed to 20 November for a pre-trial hearing at the Johannesburg High Court.
Meek faces charges of murder and defeating the ends of justice following the tragic incident that took place in May 2025 at her Fleurhof apartment, west of Johannesburg.
During her brief court appearance on Wednesday, she told the court that she could no longer afford her private attorney, Noveen Naidoo, and has therefore applied for legal aid representation.
According to earlier reports, Jayden-Lee’s lifeless body was discovered in their apartment after neighbours alerted police when they noticed a foul smell coming from the unit.

Meek was arrested shortly thereafter and has remained in custody since.
The case has drawn widespread attention due to the shocking nature of the allegations. Community members in Fleurhof held a candlelight vigil for Jayden-Lee, calling for justice and greater awareness around mental health and child safety.
The National Prosecuting Authority (NPA) previously confirmed that the post-mortem results indicated Jayden-Lee’s death was not accidental, strengthening the prosecution’s case.
The pre-trial hearing later this month will determine whether the matter is ready to proceed to a full trial.
