Limpopo – Police have launched a manhunt following a disturbing home invasion at a homestead in Malamulele, Limpopo, where two men allegedly broke into a woman’s house, raped and assaulted her before fleeing with her bakkie and other belongings.
According to the South African Police Service (SAPS), the incident occurred in the early hours of Tuesday, 28 October, at the victim’s home in the Vhembe District.
“According to reports, a 35-year-old female victim was asleep at her residence when she was awakened by three unknown men, one of whom was armed with a firearm. The suspects allegedly demanded money from the victim at gunpoint.
“When the suspects realised that the victim had no cash, they reportedly assaulted and raped her before robbing her of several items, including three (3) laptops and three (3) cellphones.
“The suspects further demanded the keys to her white Nissan Hardbody NP300 bakkie, which they used to flee the scene The total value of the stolen property is estimated at R459 000-00,” said Colonel Malesela Ledwaba.
Following a swift investigation, the stolen vehicle was recovered the same day at Mulenzhe Village in the Thohoyandou policing area around 15:00, where it was found abandoned.
Police have since opened cases of robbery and rape. Investigations are underway to trace and arrest the suspects and recover the remaining stolen property.
Authorities have appealed to anyone with information that could assist in the arrests to contact the investigating officer, Sergeant Soza Nkwinika, on 082 319 9724, the Crime Stop number 08600 10111, the nearest police station, or via the MySAPS App.
Investigations are still ongoing.
