Johannesburg – ActionSA has officially revoked the membership of several former Johannesburg councillors following findings of poor performance and misconduct.
In a letter dated 28 October 2025, the party’s Senate informed the councillors that their membership was terminated with immediate effect, The Citizen quoted,
“I write to inform you that the ActionSA Senate met yesterday, 28 October 2025, to deliberate on the question of your ongoing membership of the party arising from the recent findings against your performance as a public representative and various forms of misconduct that you have been deemed to be involved in.
ActionSA has expelled 22 of its councillors from Gauteng metros for poor performance.

“The Senate resolved to terminate your membership of the party with immediate effect,” the letter read.
One of those expelled, Elmari Atterbury, said she received her dismissal letter a day after voicing her dissatisfaction over how the party handled their firing during a recent council meeting.
According to SABC News, the eight councillors have since filed an urgent High Court application to stop the party from replacing them until their dismissal dispute is resolved.
The councillors, who were informed of their removal in late September, argued that their dismissal was politically motivated, procedurally flawed, and carried out without due process.
Atterbury said that despite sending two cease-and-desist letters urging the party to halt the replacement process, ActionSA ignored their requests.
