East London – Police in the Eastern Cape have launched a manhunt after a taxi boss and his friend were shot dead in Ngqamakhwe on Monday afternoon.
According to Warrant Officer Majola Nkohli, a spokesperson for the South African Police Service, officers were called to a gravel road at Jekezi location, Xilinxa A/A, at around 14:30 following reports of a shooting.
“On arrival, police found a white Double Cab Toyota bakkie riddled with bullet holes. On the passenger seat, there was a man with gunshot wounds to the upper body. The second body was lying a few meters away on the gravel road, also with gunshot wounds,” Nkohli said.

The identities of the deceased, aged 37 and 42, have not been released pending formal identification.
Preliminary investigations indicate that the suspects were traveling in a white Suzuki SUV when they shot the two men. “The Provincial Serious and Violent Crimes Unit is investigating this case. No arrests have been made yet,” Nkohli confirmed.
He appealed to members of the public for assistance: “Anyone who can assist with information that could lead to the arrest of the suspects is urged to contact the team leader on 071 475 2292. Information can also be shared via Crime Stop on 08600 10111.”
Police have warned that the investigation is ongoing and that all leads will be followed to apprehend those responsible.
