Cape Town – One of the students involved in the viral video showing a learner being assaulted at Milnerton High School has come under fire after issuing an online apology that was poorly received by the public.
The group of Grade 12 learners — many of whom are members of the school’s first-team rugby squad — have been suspended with immediate effect, and some are reportedly facing criminal charges.
Jeremy Armstrong, one of the students implicated in the video, posted an apology on his Instagram account, which has since been deactivated.
“I just want to apologise on behalf of Katlego and the video of me hitting him. I know I may not be forgiven, but the actions that have been done by me was wrong.
“I deeply regret it and spoke to Kat’s parents, telling them how sorry I am for assaulting Katlego.
“To apologies isn’t just to say sorry, but to show you’re sorry. To those of you who know me, know I never apologise. Especially after doing something I knew I was doing in the moment.
“I deeply apologise for the friends and family of Katlego and all my peers that I’ve let down,” wrote Armstrong.
One of them has since issued a cocky apology.
“Those of you who knows me, know that I never apologise….”
I guess Katlego should feel honoured that you “apologised”🤷🏾♂️ pic.twitter.com/cZViUnv4En

Users on X expressed their frustration over the apology, with many upset about its lack of sincerity, while others mocked the bully’s poor grammar.
“Apologize on behalf of Katlego? What did Katlgo do? What did his friends do? What did his family do? Why is he apologizing for them? Kanti, what is being taught at this school? @Siviwe_G@DBE_SA, what’s going on here?” said Sir Jono.
“What am I reading? At least you know he didn’t get Chatgpt to write his apology for him,” said St. Bruno.
“Public apology yokunuka I hate how bullying isn’t taken seriously in schools. I don’t know how many times I’ve seen videos like this trending online and they do NOTHING about it,” said Muntu ka jack.
In response to growing outrage, community members organised a peaceful march outside the school demanding justice for the victim and stricter action against bullying. Eyewitnesses reported that the march remained largely calm until police deployed tear gas to disperse a group of youths who attempted to block nearby roads.
A resident attending the march said: “We wanted to show solidarity with the boy and his family. It was meant to be peaceful, but tensions rose and the police used tear gas to clear the streets.”
