Johannesburg – Johannesburg residents have been warned to take precautions as severe thunderstorms hit Gauteng, with heavy rain, lightning, and potential localised flooding expected.
The South African Weather Service (Saws) issued the warning, and Johannesburg Emergency Management Services (EMS) advised people to stay indoors, avoid flooded areas, and drive cautiously.

Motorists are urged to keep headlights on, maintain safe distances, and avoid flooded roads and bridges. Emergency numbers are 011 375 5911 or 112.
Similar warnings have been issued for other regions, including North West, Free State, and parts of the Northern Cape, where severe storms could damage infrastructure, property, livestock, and crops, and cause flooding of roads and low-lying areas.
