Watch as suspended Police Minister Senzo Mchunu appears before Parliament’s Ad Hoc Committee amid ongoing investigations into alleged political interference in police operations.
The probe follows a July briefing by KwaZulu-Natal Police Commissioner Lieutenant-General Nhlanhla Mkhwanazi, who accused Mchunu, Deputy National Commissioner Shadrack Sibiya, and Mchunu’s associate Brown Mogotsi of undermining police independence and obstructing justice.
Mkhwanazi alleges that Mchunu interfered in police operations, including disbanding the Political Killings Task Team. He further claims that 121 case dockets — including five with arrest instructions — were removed from the unit and shelved in Pretoria without action.
