Cape Town – Patriotic Alliance (PA) Member of Parliament Ashley Sauls has publicly challenged Police Commissioner Fannie Masemola’s testimony regarding the movements of businessman Kenny Kunene in the ongoing investigation into the murder of DJ Sumbody.
During an Ad Hoc Committee session in Parliament, Sauls accused Masemola of lying, disputing her claim that Kunene was seen twice at the home of Katiso “KT” Molefe, the alleged mastermind behind Sumbody’s murder.
Masemola had testified that Kunene was indeed at Molefe’s house on two occasions.
In July, police found Kunene at the house when attempting to arrest Molefe for the murder of musician Oupa Sefoka, popularly known as DJ Sumbody.

Kunene said he was accompanying a journalist from his online publication to interview Molefe.
His party subsequently suspended him pending investigations, and he resigned as a Johannesburg councillor and the city’s transport MMC.
In September, Kunene was cleared of wrongdoing and reinstated.
Masemola told the committee that the information came from his team.
“What the team reported to me is that he was there twice. One of the occasions was at the house, and the other time they turned him away at the gate,” he said, confirming that Kunene was with a journalist during the second visit.
Sauls challenged Masemola’s claims, arguing that the commissioner could not rely solely on second-hand reports.

“You cannot state for a fact that he was there twice. You are basing it on what you were told. Your report is not a fact. The general cannot come here based on a report and state factually that Kunene was at Molefe’s house twice,” Sauls said.
The session drew criticism from other MPs, with several expressing concern over Sauls’ repeated accusations against Masemola.
Meanwhile, on Friday, the Johannesburg High Court granted Molefe bail of R400,000, overturning an earlier decision by the Alexandra Magistrate’s Court that had denied him release.
