Johannesburg – The Alexandra community has been left reeling after prominent businessman and community leader Vincent “Vinny” Ndima, president of the Alexandra Parliament, was shot dead in a violent ambush early on Monday morning.
According to Gauteng police, Ndima and his friend, Thabo Mahane, were driving along 13th Avenue and Joe Nhlanhla Street when they came under heavy gunfire from unidentified assailants.
Eyewitnesses reported hearing a barrage of gunshots, with about 40 spent cartridges later recovered at the scene.

Police said Mahane, who was armed, reportedly returned fire during the attack before the gunmen fled.
Ndima died on the scene, while Mahane was rushed to hospital in critical condition.
Ndima, affectionately known as “Vinny,” was widely regarded as a pillar of the Alexandra community.
He was known for his charitable work — providing food parcels to struggling families, assisting with funeral costs, and supporting home renovation projects in partnership with local councillors.

Just days before his death, Ndima had reportedly warned a local journalist about escalating gun violence in the township.
Tributes have poured in on social media, with community members describing him as a “hero” and a “crime fighter” who dedicated his life to improving Alexandra.
Police have opened a murder case and are appealing to anyone with information to come forward.
