Durban — A 30-year-old man from Fir Close in Trenance Park was safely intercepted on Tuesday morning after allegedly threatening to take his own life, Reaction Unit South Africa (RUSA) confirmed.
According to RUSA spokesperson Prem Balram, officers responded to a distress call from the man’s family at about 09:14.
“We received a call from the man’s family who were extremely concerned for his wellbeing. They reported that he had abruptly left home and indicated he intended to end his life,” Balram said.
Reaction Officers patrolled Cottonwood Drive and located the man shortly afterwards.
“He matched the description provided by his family. When officers approached him, he appeared disoriented and not in a sound state of mind. Showing signs of distress, the man was safely escorted back to his residence,” Balram added.
The man’s father told reporters his son had recently been acting out of character.
“He has shown unusual and erratic behaviour lately, including uninvited trespassing into neighbours’ yards and episodes of aggression. We have never known him to have any mental health issues or suicidal tendencies,” the father said.
Family members later transported him to a medical facility for examination.
RUSA has urged community members to reach out for help if they, or someone they know, are experiencing emotional distress.
