Bethlehem – Free State police have arrested a man in Bohlokong after he was allegedly caught transporting an injured victim in a wheelie bin following a dispute over a stolen cellphone.
According to police spokesperson Warrant Officer Mmako Mophiring, officers patrolling 9th Avenue at about 08:00 on 22 September 2025 stopped a man pushing a black wheelie bin.
Inside they discovered another man, bleeding heavily.
“Preliminary investigations suggest the suspect and the victim had argued over a cellphone the suspect had allegedly taken and sold. The suspect was reportedly taking the injured victim to the buyer’s house in Phase 7 when police intervened,” Mophiring said.

The victim sustained a deep cut behind his left knee, believed to have been caused by corrugated iron while trying to flee, and suffered multiple bruises.
Paramedics removed him from the bin but he died while being stabilised.
Police have opened a case of murder.
The suspect is expected to appear in the Bethlehem Magistrate’s Court on Tuesday, 23 September 2025.
