Cape Town – President Cyril Ramaphosa arrived in New York on Sunday night, leading the South African delegation to the High-Level segment of the United Nations General Assembly (UNGA), coinciding with the 80th anniversary of the UN Charter.
Over 100 heads of state and government are attending this year’s session, themed “Better together: 80 years and more for peace, development and human rights.”
Ramaphosa’s agenda focuses on urgent global issues, including the war in Ukraine, conflicts in Sudan and the DRC, and the situation in Gaza, with South Africa advocating dialogue over conflict.

On Monday, he will join a two-state solution conference co-chaired by French President Emmanuel Macron and Saudi Arabia’s foreign minister, following recognition of a Palestinian state by several Western countries.
On Tuesday, Ramaphosa will address the General Debate, promoting multilateralism and peaceful conflict resolution.
He will also participate in discussions at the Council on Foreign Relations, a heads-of-delegation reception hosted by President Donald Trump, bilaterals with US business leaders, an executive dialogue with the US Chamber of Commerce, and a G20 Ministerial meeting to build momentum toward the Leaders’ Summit in Johannesburg.
Cabinet ministers Maropene Ramokgopa, Ronald Lamola, Parks Tau, Dion George, and Aaron Motsoaledi accompany him on the delegation.
