On Wednesday Mkhwanazi testified for nearly six hours at the Madlanga Commission of Inquiry in Pretoria, alleging that former Police Minister Senzo Mchunu was influenced by nefarious forces to disband the KwaZulu-Natal Political Killings Task Team.
He described the minister’s decision as “misplaced” and claimed that Mchunu was “fully involved in the syndicate,” with evidence on record.
The commission was established following Mkhwanazi’s July 2025 press conference, where he accused police officers, judiciary members, prosecutors, politicians, and Correctional Services officials of being part of a crime syndicate linked to a drug cartel.
His allegations led President Cyril Ramaphosa to place Mchunu on paid leave and appoint Firoz Cachalia as acting police minister, a move currently challenged in court by the uMkhonto weSizwe Party.
