Cape Town – Acclaimed actress and television personality Phumeza Shoba is reportedly seeking to dissolve her decade-long marriage to musician Mnqobi “Shota” Shoba.
Over the weekend, it emerged that Phumeza has initiated divorce proceedings after 11 years of marriage.
According to IOL, she filed the papers in July 2025, though neither she nor Mnqobi has publicly confirmed the split.
Amid the news, an old video of DJ Black Coffee offering marriage advice to his longtime friend Shota resurfaced online, reigniting public interest.
In a wedding special titled P.S. I Love You, Black Coffee urged Mnqobi to attend therapy regularly — switching therapists if necessary — while stressing the importance of mental health and spiritual grounding, especially for public figures.
He reflected on how their fathers lacked the tools to guide them, emphasizing that both God and therapy were essential in navigating the challenges of marriage.
Black Coffee gives his childhood friend Shota this advice about MARRIAGE and fame:
“Your father and my father were NOT men that were equipped with the skills to advise us to be the men we are…” 😭😭😭

Meanwhile, OkMzansi reports that close insiders have linked the separation to Shota’s alleged infidelity and emotional abuse. Sources claim Phumeza initially attempted to resolve the issues privately, but when that failed, she instructed her lawyers to proceed with a formal divorce in July.
The Herald adds that her decision followed repeated betrayals. One insider described her choice as “dumping him like an obsolete music instrument,” saying that Shota’s unfaithfulness was the final straw.
Attempts at mediation reportedly collapsed once the legal process began.
No-one gets married with the intention of getting divorced: 😢
When Shota got married to Phumeza, he always knew that it would be FOREVER, “Till death do us part” as they vowed.
However, unforeseen circumstances happen! 💔 pic.twitter.com/uEDTeN8fe6

Social media has since been flooded with reactions, with many reflecting on the couple’s vows and how unforeseen circumstances can end even marriages meant to last “till death do us part.”
@chiefcebo_ “Women would never divorce unless they had found a replacement. She has found someone. She should be ashamed of herself.”
@Pinkdoll_love
“Honestly, I think this was a strong and healthy decision. It’s never an easy choice after 11 years, but staying after discovering cheating would’ve been draining. Leaving shows she values her self-respect and well-being. Sometimes walking away is the smartest move.”
@LimpopoLadyy
“The lovely, peaceful Phumeza is about to get the Enhle treatment from these streets. Because how dare a well-known person leave a cheating man, knowing it will encourage other women to stop tolerating nonsense.”
@Zukoh
“His proximity to Black Coffee attracted the type of women he couldn’t say no to. The guy is always surrounded by 9’s & 10’s from all over the world.”
