Cape Town – A 43-year-old woman was arrested after a fetus was discovered in the backyard of her home, where she had allegedly attempted to conceal it from the public.
The South African Police Service Office of the Provincial Commissioner Limpopo said in a statement that the suspect was arrested on 7 September, at Lesodimotlana village in the Tinmyne policing area, Waterberg District.
The suspect, who is a mother of 7, including a 17-month-old baby was due to give birth, however one of the community members took notice of that the suspect’s pregnancy was no longer visible and alerted the police.

“Upon questioning the alleged suspect, it was revealed that she had been pregnant for about five months before giving birth (stillborn) on 22 August, 2025, and she wrapped the foetus with a towel and buried it behind the house.
“The foetus was found in a shallow grave behind the house.
“Police investigations are ongoing”, said Colonel Malesela Ledwaba.
The suspect will appear before the Mahwelereng Magistrate’s Court on Wednesday, 10 September 2025.
