Johannesburg – Floyd Shivambu, leader of the newly formed Afrika Mayibuye Movement, has dismissed comparisons with his former parties, the EFF and uMkhonto weSizwe (MK Party), saying they represent only a small share of voters and should not be given attention.
The party’s recently launched logo — a red, black, and green flag featuring Africa with a spear and pen — sparked social media reactions, with many noting its resemblance to the EFF symbol.
Shivambu said the focus of the Afrika Mayibuye Movement, officially launched on 5 September 2025 after a consultation process, is to represent the interests and aspirations of South Africans, not to engage in personality politics.
“We are not going to model our politics on talking about uMkhonto weSizwe or the EFF. We have got an organisation now, Afrika Mayibuye Movement, and that is what we are going to talk about.

“We are going to talk about the interests and aspirations of the people of South Africa. We are not going to bog down to discussing the personalities,” said Shivambu.
The party positions itself as an alternative to existing formations, rejecting corruption, ill-discipline, and cult-like politics, and aims to contest every ward and municipality in the upcoming local government elections.
