Cape Town – A VW Polo split in half after crashing into a light pole on the N2 between La Mercy and Umdloti Beach, KwaZulu-Natal, on Saturday.
The unit reported that the white VW Polo was heading south when it struck a light pole, causing the vehicle to break into two pieces.
“Both pieces of the vehicle were found a distance apart from the point of impact.”
Police are investigating the accident, with reckless and negligent driving under consideration.
Wet road conditions and severe thunderstorms in the province may have contributed to the crash.
Authorities have urged motorists to drive cautiously, maintain safe distances, and switch on headlights, while residents are advised to avoid flooded areas and stay indoors.
