Limpopo – Police in Limpopo have launched an investigation after three children, aged between 2 and 4, died when a fire broke out at Itsani village on Friday, 29 August 2025.
According to provincial police spokespersons, officers received a report of a burning house with children trapped inside.
Emergency services rushed to the scene, where firefighters were battling the blaze.
Once the fire was extinguished, the children’s bodies were discovered inside the one-room house, burned beyond recognition.

“Preliminary investigations revealed that the children had been playing near a one-room house, but it remains unclear how they ended up inside. The exact cause of the fire is still unknown,” police spokesperson Colonel Malesela Ledwaba said in a statement.
Provincial Police Commissioner Lieutenant General Thembi Hadebe expressed shock at the tragedy and directed that forensic and fire experts be brought in to assist with the investigation. She also instructed police to probe possible negligence by the parents or guardians.
Investigations are ongoing.
