Durban – Thirteen people were injured in a serious crash involving a taxi and a bus on Umgeni Road near Adrian Road in the Durban Central area on Thursday morning.
According to ALS Paramedics Medical Services, emergency teams were called to the scene shortly after 06:30.
“On arrival Paramedics found chaos as they found that a Taxi had collided into the rear of a Bus leaving the front seat passengers entrapped in the wreckage,” the service said.
The eThekwini Fire Department was dispatched to assist and used the Jaws of Life to free trapped passengers.
“Whilst the eThekwini Fire Department used the Jaws of Life to cut the passenger free Advanced Life Support Paramedics worked to stabilize the injured in the vehicle,” ALS Paramedics confirmed.
Several ambulances and advanced life support units were sent to the scene to treat multiple patients. “A total of Thirteen people had sustained various injuries and once all were stabilized on the scene they injured were transported to various Durban Hospitals for the further care that they required,” the service said.
The cause of the crash remains unclear. “At this stage the events leading up to the crash is unknown however SAPS and Metro Police were in attendance and will be investigating further,” ALS Paramedics said.
