Johannesburg – Johannesburg’s Emergency Management Services (EMS) has confirmed that The Freeway Tabernacle (TFT) church in Soweto caught fire.
According to EWN, EMS spokesperson Robert Mulaudzi said the incident occurred on 22 August in Protea, Soweto, and that no injuries have been reported.
“Firefighters are currently attending to a local church on fire reported in Protea South, and the cause of the fire is still an object on investigation,” said Mulaudzi.
The church took to Facebook to share a message with its members and the public.
“Family our church building is currently on fire. We ask you not panic or worry-God is in control, and He is our refuge in every storm.
“Please join us in prayer right now: for the safety of everyone, for our firefighters, and for peace as we trust the lord through the situation. Remember, the church is not building-it’s us, the people of God.
“We will keep you updated. Stay prayerful, stay strong, and stay united,” said TFT.
The incident follows after the Gauteng Provincial Disaster Management Centre (PDMC) reported that the South African Weather Service announced a veld fire warning across the northern regions of the country including Gauteng.

“Very hot, dry and wind conditions may result in development of runaway and veld/bush fires and strengthen existing fires, expected in places over Limpopo, south of Gauteng and over the Highveld in Mpumalanga today and in places over the three provinces (Limpopo, Gauteng and Mpumalanga),” said PDMC.
