Cape Town – The KwaZulu- Natal Provincial Government has confirmed that 113 houses will be built within the next four months for flood victims, through the Cabinet Operation Siyahlola oversight programme.
Premier Thamsanqa Ntuli announced progress on the resettlement plan for communities affected by the 2022 and 2025 floods.
The intervention forms part of the province’s accelerated disaster recovery plan, aimed at ensuring that every flood victim in KwaZulu-Natal will be permanently accommodated in a fully serviced home.
Ntuli reassured the public that the houses would be built to high-quality, disaster-resilient standards and would cater for people with disabilities, ensuring inclusivity, accessibility, and long-term comfort.

“Operation Siyahlola is not just about inspecting projects – it is about changing lives.
“The construction of these 113 houses within four months is a promise in action.
“By 2027, we want every flood victim in KwaZulu-Natal to live in a safe, permanent home. Our designs cater for everyone, including people with disabilities, because rebuilding after disaster must mean building better and building for all.
“This is about hope, dignity, and building a province where no one is left behind,” said Ntuli.
The Minister of Human Settlements, Thembi Simelane, and the MEC for Transport and Human Settlements have been responsible for allocating housing across various regions of the province, including Illovo and the double-story houses in Cato Crest.

“I am quite happy to see the progress because we are just one year into the office, but when you look at the extent to which work of Human Settlement has done…
“In fact, it is inspiring. New hope and the MEC for Transport and Human Settlement, MEC Duma and his entire team.
“They are working. They are on the ground as you can see,” said Ntuli.
