Cape Town – South African actress Asavela Mqokiyana candidly shared the emotional toll of her divorce in an episode of the MommyDiaries by Pasi Koetle podcast, speaking openly about navigating motherhood and heartbreak simultaneously.
Asavela revealed that separating from her husband in 2024 occurred just six months after welcoming their daughter, a time she describes as overwhelmingly challenging: “I had to be responsible for this little human, pour into her, while I was breaking inside.”
She continued, “You are losing yourself, and you’re losing a lot of what you have built over the years, and you have to rebuild with this new soul.”

The actress reflected on her original dream of a two-parent household—one that was abruptly lost. “It wasn’t planned. It’s hard navigating that alone. The plan was to have a two-parent household… and now it’s stripped away,” she shared
Yet, amid the pain, she emphasized a silver lining: her ex-husband has proven to be a supportive co-parent. “We are fine with her father. We co-parent beautifully. He has always been a great father… and I have never doubted he can be that for her.”
Despite the personal upheaval, Asavela remains hopeful about the future. She affirmed her enduring belief in love, saying, “I always wanted to have a family… I would definitely get married again. Just because I had a different experience doesn’t mean I have to paint every man with the same brush.”
On YouTube alone, the episode has garnered over 100,000 views in just two days, with emotionally charged comments reflecting gratitude for her vulnerability from a viewer who noted being grateful “for how honest and open she was,” to many who expressed how moved they were by her strength through adversity.
