Cape Town – Sandton businessman Katiso Molefe, who is currently applying for bail at the Alexandra Magistrates’ Court, has declared millions in assets and admitted to selling luxury vehicles to fund his legal battles.
Molefe, who faces multiple murder and conspiracy charges, told the court that he personally owns a Mercedes-Benz SL600 valued at around R400,000. He also previously owned, through his company, a Mercedes-Benz V-Class worth R1.8 million and a Range Rover valued at R1.2 million.
“In my personal capacity I’m the owner of a Mercedes Benz SL600 worth approximately R400, 000 and through my company I also owned a V Class Mercedes valued at R1.8 million and a Range Rover worth R1.2 million. I actually sold my V Class Mercedes to pay for legal fees and bail,” EWN quoted him as saying.
Molefe stands accused of orchestrating the 2022 killings of popular musicians DJ Sumbody (Oupa Sefoka) and DJ Vintos (Hector Buthelezi), along with Sefoka’s bodyguards. He is also on trial for the murder of engineer Armand Swart.
In his affidavit, Molefe stated he had no intention of fleeing the country, citing his extensive business interests and personal assets in South Africa. These include a R17 million home in Sandhurst and another property worth R3 million in Winchester Hills. He further declared earning a combined income of R200,000 per month through his businesses.

However, investigators have strongly opposed his release. The prosecution argues that Molefe poses a serious threat to witnesses, has access to considerable financial resources, and could interfere with the investigation — especially as one of the AK-47 rifles used in the murders is still unaccounted for.
According to police, witnesses in the case fear for their lives. This concern is heightened by the fact that Molefe was previously granted R100,000 bail in the Swart case. The current bail application has now been postponed to 15 August, with Molefe remaining in custody.
State prosecutor Khethokwakhe Ngubane told the court that Molefe is “a danger to society with no regard for human life”, IOL reported.
An affidavit from the investigating officer includes cellphone records and WhatsApp messages allegedly linking Molefe to the hitmen responsible for DJ Sumbody’s murder. The messages suggest Molefe coordinated payments to the alleged assassins.

Ngubane also highlighted growing public outrage and widespread concern on social media over the possibility of Molefe’s release. Due to threats, investigators assigned to the case are now under 24-hour police protection.
Ballistics reports confirm that the same AK-47 rifle was used in the murders of DJ Sumbody, DJ Vintos, Armand Swart, and Don Tindleni—pointing to a possible coordinated hit squad allegedly linked to Molefe. SAPS spokesperson Brigadier Athlenda Mathe confirmed the ballistic match.
Molefe’s lawyer, Advocate Michael Hellens SC, argued that his client had already been granted bail in the Swart matter, citing precedent. In his affidavit, Molefe also claimed police damaged his property during his arrest and revealed that he had a 20-year-old drug conviction in the UK, though he insists he is not a flight risk.
His bail application will continue on 15 August when his legal team is expected to submit further arguments and responses.
