Durban – A suspect wanted for the attempted murder of two police officers was shot and killed in a gun battle with police in KwaDabeka on Wednesday afternoon, while two others were wounded and arrested.
The shootout erupted at the KK Hostel in KwaDabeka after police traced four suspects who were allegedly involved in an attack on two officers in Bester on Tuesday, 29 July.
According to KwaZulu-Natal police spokesperson Colonel Robert Netshiunda, the officers came under fire from at least ten suspects while patrolling Danisa Road. The officers returned fire and escaped with minor injuries.
They were later treated in hospital.

“Following an immediate investigation, police received intelligence on Wednesday that led them to the KK Hostel, where four suspects were hiding. As officers approached the room, the suspects opened fire, prompting a shootout,” said Netshiunda.
One suspect was fatally wounded. Three others fled through windows, but two were found outside with gunshot wounds and were taken to hospital under police guard. No police officers were injured during the exchange.
Netshiunda confirmed that the suspects are also linked to a separate murder case in Inanda. Police recovered one firearm and 93 rounds of ammunition from the scene, with further investigations leading to the seizure of three additional firearms.
The wounded suspects are expected to appear in court once medically cleared.
The search for the remaining suspects continues.
