Cape Town – South Africa has reaffirmed its strong support for a two-state solution in the Israel-Palestine conflict, with International Relations Minister Ronald Lamola condemning Israel’s actions in Gaza as “genocide” during a UN conference.
Lamola called for urgent recognition of Palestinian statehood, respect for international law, and an end to Israeli settlement expansion and forced displacement.
He criticised the paralysis of the international system and urged the UN Security Council to protect Palestinians.
The minister stressed that real peace requires accountability, compliance with ICJ rulings, and restoration efforts in Gaza.
The UK announced it will recognise Palestine by September, unless Israel agrees to a ceasefire and commits to a peace process. France welcomed the UK’s stance, while Israel claimed the move undermines ceasefire efforts.
