Cape Town – EFF leader Julius Malema has rejected claims linking both him and his wife to controversial businessman Vusimuzi “Cat” Matlala, following widespread speculation on social media.
Speaking during a by-election in Limpopo on Wednesday, Malema denied knowing Matlala and dismissed the claims as “petty gossip”, urging focus on national issues instead.
“He must go – rot in jail. I don’t know him. I don’t even care about him,” Malema said outside Mponegele Primary School voting station where elections were held in Ward 13.
“I’ve never had anything to do with him. So you take a petty gossip and come ask me about it? There are serious national issues you should ask me about. I’ve got nothing to do with what is happening.”

The speculation was fueled by viral images allegedly showing Mantwa being protected by CAT VIP Protection, a company linked to Matlala, according to reports.
Some online users claimed this explained Malema’s silence on the businessman, while others rejected any connection.
Matlala is under fire after KZN police commissioner Nhlanhla Mkhwanazi accused him of interfering with police operations and aiding criminal networks.
Matlala is also linked to a cancelled R360 million SAPS contract and to Brown Mogotsi, an associate of Police Minister Senzo Mchunu
