Cape Town – Deputy National Police Commissioner Shadrack Sibiya has been placed on leave following serious allegations made by KwaZulu-Natal Police Commissioner Nhlanhla Mkhwanazi.
Sibiya is accused of acting on behalf of Police Minister Senzo Mchunu, including disbanding the Political Killings Task Team to allegedly shield criminal syndicates.
National Commissioner Fannie Masemola confirmed Sibiya’s leave as part of ongoing internal processes.
“He has been served with documents to take leave while the processes are underway. We don’t normally like to discuss details of our departmental processes, but yes, he has been served today to stay home while other processes are unfolding,” Masemola said.

“It is a leave of absence while we are doing the internal process.”
In response to the broader allegations, President Cyril Ramaphosa has placed Mchunu on leave and appointed law professor Firoz Cachalia as interim police minister.
A judicial commission has also been set up to investigate the claims, which are said to pose a threat to national security.
