Cape Town – Springbok No 8 Jasper Wiese has been handed a four-match suspension following a World Rugby disciplinary hearing on Tuesday, after receiving a red card during South Africa’s 45-0 win over Italy last week.
As a result, Wiese will miss the final Castle Lager Incoming Series clash against Georgia in Nelspruit on Saturday, along with the opening three fixtures of the Castle Lager Rugby Championship: two Tests against Australia in Johannesburg (16 August) and Cape Town (23 August), and the first encounter with New Zealand in Auckland on 6 September.

He will, however, be eligible for selection for the remainder of the Championship, starting with the second Test against the All Blacks in Wellington on 13 September, followed by matches against Argentina in Durban (27 September) and London (4 October),” SA Rugby reported.
The Disciplinary Committee (DC) chaired by Rhian Williams, met on 15 July 2025.

An independent Foul Play Review Committee (FPRC) initially reviewed Wiese’s red card incident under the expedited sanction process during the Summer Internationals but referred the case to a full DC hearing, according to The South Africa.
Wiese admitted to foul play but contested that it warranted a red card.
After reviewing all evidence, the committee upheld the red card, reclassifying the offence under Law 9.12 (striking with the head) instead of 9.11 (reckless play).
They deemed the incident a low-end offence warranting a six-match suspension, reduced to four matches due to mitigating factors.
