Cape Town – Police in Cape Town are searching for one week old Mogamat Imaad Shamar, who went missing at Middestad Mall in Bellville, Cape Town, on Saturday.
The baby was last seen with a person accompanying his mother, who left them briefly to use the bathroom after feeling ill.
When she returned, both the baby and the individual were gone.
The incident has been confirmed by Western Cape police spokesperson, Warrant Officer Joseph Swartbooi
The Bellville Family Violence, Child Protection and Sexual Offences Unit is investigating, and police are appealing for information.
The Western Cape Missing Persons Unit (WCMPU) has circulated flyers across social media platforms in a bid to gather any leads on the baby’s whereabouts.
The woman, who introduced herself as “Chivon” and claimed to represent an organisation supporting young mothers with counselling and care packages, befriended the baby’s mother during her pregnancy.
After the baby was born, “Chivon” took the mother out to eat.
During the outing, the mother began to feel unwell and went to the bathroom. When she returned, both “Chivon” and her newborn baby were missing, the report said.
